LA Weekly: Features: Keepers of the Magic Kingdom tells the oddly compelling story of obsessive Disneyphiles - people who obsessively visit Disneyland several times a week, collect Disney memorablia (or, in one case 'ephemeral ephemera'). They know the Disney cast members, they notice if a new speaker is placed on a ride, or plants are placed around a fountain. They have memorized the entire history of every square foot of the park.
Are these people mentally unhealthy, or do they just really like Disneyland? In one Disneyphile's case, a traumatic event is associated with Disneyland: his father had a heart attack there, within minutes of stepping into the park; he never got to see it as a child as a result. Another Disneyphile has seen almost every showing of "The Power of Blast", which opened in November of 2001 and performs four times a day. Sometimes she "takes off Tuesdays to run errands."
