The state of the Darren

So I've been sketchy in updating for awhile, but there's a few good reasons why.

First, and this is the biggest news, I've decided to take the plunge and go into the MA HuCo program. Over the last couple of weeks (well, actually much longer, but the last couple of weeks have had the most movement).

I've been talking with work, and they've agreed to let me move down to a shorter work week without losing any of my benefits. They've also tentatively offered to reimburse my tuition when classes are done and grades are in. The downside to this, which caused me all sorts of worry and indecision, is that I'd also be taking a big cut in salary.

Kirsten and I talked it over, and decided that it was worth it in the long run to take a salary hit now, in order to get a Master's degree. So now, I'm good to go.

I start in two weeks. Eep.

Quite honestly, though, I don't foresee the first semester (which, ironically, is possibly the most important semester, since I'm on a probational acceptance, and have to keep a specific GPA in order to stay in the program) to be all that difficult. HuCo has two required courses, both of which cover material that I'm really quite knowledgable about (image manipulation, HTML, PHP). The sketchy one is the Introduction to Library Sciences. Yes, I'm taking Library Sciences. Why? Well, it turns out they have a lot of applicable courses to what I want to study. Like Information Architecture. And Archive Management.

I'm looking forward to going back to school... It's going to be quite a change from my every day life over the last 5 years... but I think I'm going to enjoy being back in that frame of mind.

There's been other things we've been dealing with as well, to do with some side contracts, and that hasn't been that pleasant. I can't get into too many details, so I won't.
