NO. This is not acceptable under any stretch of the imagination.
Canadian troops in Afghanistan have been told the Geneva Conventions and Canadian regulations regarding the rights of prisoners of war don't apply to Taliban and al-Qaeda fighters captured on the battlefield.
The justification is this: Geneva applies only to prisoners of war. Since there is no war in Afghanistan, Geneva doesn't apply. As a result, we have been handing prisoners over to the US for indefinite internment at Guatanamo Bay "if not daily, then several times a week."
Where the hell did my country go? With this decision, we fully share culpability for the atrocities the US carries out at Guatanamo Bay. Canada, I'm ashamed of you.
