· THE PAPER (April 2005 )
So as many of you know, I've been writing my term paper for HuCo 510 over the last week. What many of you do not know is that it's turning into a bit of a monster, and will likely expand after-the-fact to be my MA thesis. I started out writing a paper on personal documentary on the web, in the form of weblogs, livejournals, vlogging, etc... As I started writing it, however, I realized that there's something very central to all of this personal documentary, and that's the confession. So I've been looking at everything I'm pulling in (sites like grouphug and notproud as well as livejournal and personal blogs) through that lens. And I have a confession to make - it's driving me nutty! I'm having a hell of a time putting it all together in my head and keeping all the theory straight (I'm also trying to pull in Dori Laub's thoughts on witnessing, but haven't yet done an adequate job of it). Kirsten's been doing her best to keep my sane and focused, which is definitely helping. But I'm looking forward to just being done this paper....

· Be vewwy vewwy quiet... (March 2005 )
... I'm huntin' words. That's right, it's essay-writing season, and I have a heck of a lot of words to bag. So, aside from random mutterings and utterings, this site is going to go a little quiet for the next couple of weeks (though I reserve the right to write missives about anything ranging from Foucault and film theory to "hee hee hee, the light sure is shiny in this room"). I'll see you on the other side, folks... in the meantime, entertain yourself in the comments....
· Short Attention Span Theatre (March 2005 )
In other news, I finally have time to dedicate towards writing papers for class. I have two to write for one of my HuCo classes. One I've yet to narrow down to a specific topic, but last night - with Kirsten's help - I narrowed down the other paper (and presentation) to personal documentary on the Internet. It's an interesting area to look at, especially because there is so much disparity in how people are 'documenting' themselves on the 'net. I'm planning to spend most of my time focusing on video documentary, and plan to bring in some Foucault and Dori Laub to help me out (thanks K). I also have a nifty gimmick in mind for my presentation, which I have yet to plan out....

· Something from HuCo (November 2004 )
Over the past three weeks or so (much of that waiting to get some files from Britain), I've been working with some map data and data from Kirsten's witch manuscripts. Here's something that just came out of the data yesterday - these are witches in the county of Essex. Click on the image for a high-res version......
