Last night I picked up a pair of Samsung 940BW 19" widescreen LCDs. I'd held off purchasing LCD monitors for quite some time, but the two 17" monitors I was using at home finally started getting unbearably fuzzy and hard to view. K even agreed it was time to get new monitors, and when that happened I knew there was a problem!

It feels weirdly luxurious to have the new monitors sitting on my desk. They take up far less space depth-wise on the desk than the CRTs did, which makes the desk look much larger than it actually is (and has the unfortunate side effect of placing my speakers' volume control just out of reach). They are beautiful screens, especially considering their $250 price tag. The screens are nice and bright (with one-touch brightness settings for games, movies, text, etc) and the casing/bezel is extremely thin, which keeps your focus on the screen.

I test-drove them last night as I worked on some PHP coding and watched Desperate Housewives. It was really nice having the 16:10 aspect for watching shows, but I need to work out how to work in my new resolution; I'm used to near-maximizing my windows at 1280x1024; I can theoretically place my editor and browser side-by-side at 1440x900, but it doesn't feel right. I figure it's just the breaking in period, and it'll come soon enough.
