new arrival, monster

Our loverly, wonderful stove came on Saturday and it is glorious! It completes our trifecta of stainless steel appliances and is the last thing we needed to do in the kitchen to make it wunnerful (though there was also a more practical reason, as our old stove was starting to limp). We've done a little cooking on it already, but we still need to get used to cooking with the new stove.

Baking in the oven is fantastic with the convection - I cooked a carrot cake that almost doubled in size, and Kirsten made yorkshire puddings that rose up quite a bit (but were done earlier than we planned, unfortunately).

One of the things we need to get used to is that things are cooked much sooner in the convection oven than in a conventional one. We get a free class from Trail about using our convection oven, so I'm looking forward to that.

On Sunday we wandered over to the Strathcona Antique mall to see what I could pick up in the realm of Star Wars collectibles. I have a few already that I lucked into at a garage sale a couple of years back (an X-Wing, a Snow Speeder, and a Speeder Bike, along with some figures) but I wanted to get the rest of the big names like Chewie, Darth Vader, etc. I managed to find a Yoda and a Chewie without any of their accessories and picked them up. And then Kirsten spotted a couple of Cylon figures. They were in rough shape, but we decided to pick them up anyways, because - hey - they're Battlestar Galactica collectibles, and we're big BG fans.

And then the impossible happened. Kirsten looked over at me and said "so now we need to find more." We made a trip to Toys R Us, then to Warp 1 Comics and Collectibles to see if we could find any collectibles from the new series. Of course, we didn't find anything (though Warp did have some reissue items from the old series). Ebay was our saviour, as we started to find some older BG collectibles. Of course, given that Kirsten really likes auctions to begin with, it may turn out to be our damnation as well; we've already bid and won 3 auctions (a new series Cylon raider, a Jabba the Hut playset, and vintage Apollo/Adama figures, and we're waiting on the results of 3 more. Unfortunately, when I had my back turned, she also bid on an Ewok treehouse play set.

I think we might have to convert our spare bedroom.

If you want to find some wicked antiques (especially toys) attend the Wild Rose Antique show next weekend, at the agricom. I'm not really partial to tradeshows but it is like going to 1 million antique stores all under one roof.

You say that like it's bad ;)

I can't wait until I have a spare bedroom for all my googas and trinkets... it'll be taken over with Eeyores!! muahahahah!

Or. Something.

But an Ewok treehouse is way cooler.
