It appears I'm starting to get the gardening bug (or at least the urge). Spring is out in full force in Edmonton, and everything is starting to look and smell just a little bit nicer. Our apple tree is just starting to blossom again, our grass is getting greener (well, the parts that aren't dead, that is), and I even bought a small lilac bush to put somewhere in our yard.
I'd really like to rehabilitate our garden this year. Years of neglect have forced it into a very wild state, with overgrown weeds in the old flower beds. This past weekend I spent trying to get the lawn back in shape by overseeding and watering it. Already there's little tufts of new grass emerging in the dead spots. With any luck, we can reclaim these spots and have a healthy lawn again. My next goal is to get the weeds out of the flower beds and maybe plant some border perennials.
I'd also like to plant an herb garden in the corner bed we have (along with some sweet peas, since we have a section for plants to crawl up) and some clematis along the side of the garage. Kirsten really wants to have a fragrant garden, so that she can hang out on the deck and smell all the flowers. Finally, I'd like to put a rock garden alongside the house to hide all the various exhaust pipes sticking out of it.
In the front, I'd like to put a bunch of Japanese Spurge around the base of the tree (I don't think much will grow in that space besides that), and put a bunch of annuals in the two little beds against the house.
