Are you drinking enough water?

<< Pictures of the new 'do | Main | I did it! >>

This article from the Dartmouth medical school suggests that the old platitude of drinking 8 glasses of water a day is not necessarily true.

The article suggests that 8 glasses a day may be far more than what our bodies actually need, and that caffeinated beverages can even count towards that total.

  1. Can I compensate for my 8 glasses a day with a couple of bottles of beer? :)

Interesting article, basically shaking the foundations of what I've been told about drinking water. Course, unless it means I'm going to turn into the water mutant from X-Men 1, I'll continue on my way. I have found though that I'm addicted in a way. Other than the occasional tea, and a morning mocha, I drink 99% water. Oh well, just a little less guilt to deal with :)

  2. You know, I always wondered about that 8 x 8 thing. I tried it for a couple days and I don't think I spent 30 minutes without making a trip to the loo.

  3. I have been pushing my water consumption to new highs and I am finding it a struggle to remain productive and not in the loo so damn much (as Oorgonomic experienced).

I usually take back about 70 ounces a day at work and while I feel better super-hydrated in this heat - I spent 15 minutes on the hour running to the bathroom and back from my desk. Then again I am stationed in the furthest place possible from the loo.
