Annoying IE HTML Rendering bug

<< Happy Solstice! | Main | All candidates meeting tonight >>

A couple of people have pointed out that my blockquotes have been getting screwed up in IE 6. It turns out there's some weird sort of bug when a certain set of conditions is met:

  1. The <blockquote> contains <p> tags, and
  2. The <blockquote> has a margin applied to it

The first blockquote will be fine -- but subsequent blockquotes will move to the left, until they're off-screen.

Here's an example from a recent entry.

If the <p> tags are removed from within the <blockquote> tag, then everything's hunky-dory. Validating the page doesn't show anything wrong with the embedded <p> tags.

It's just weird.
