Riding into work this morning, I watched a car run over a biker's front tire.
He finished pulling around the corner, and got out of the car to check on her. As I pedalled past (the biker wasn't hurt) I heard him say, "Are you alright? I was watching you for a long time, and nothing was happening, so..."
Update: Pam writes: "I can't imagine the exact geometry involved in this collision. Was the bike in motion with rider in the saddle, or had the cyclist dismounted to cross the street? "Run over the front tire" sounds like a bad collision--I just can't picture where the cyclist is at this point. This would also shed light on the comments of the motorist. More description plz? :D"
Using the power of ASCII graphics (cue 1950s science narrative music), I will illustrate:
Here's the position of the bike (8) and the car ( [=] ) The motion lines (---) show the direction of the car's travel

Basically, the driver moved forward at the same time as the biker, and caught the front of her front tire under his wheels (she was on her bike). The bike's front tire was bent pretty far out of shape.
