Tinkering

<< Candidate-o-matic | Main | Darren's Birthday Wishlist >>

Yesterday was a day of not getting things fixed.

I took off from work early to go to the dentist, to have one of my teeth looked and and fixed up. And wouldn't you know it? The damned thing wouldn't freeze. They couldn't even put the super-duper into-the-tooth anisthaetic in because it started hurting. Which means I now have an appointment with a specialist endodontist, who is likely going to put me under general anaesthesia to deal with this tooth and another tooth that has to be worked on. :(

After my dentist appointment, I started tinkering with our new lawnmower (well, not new - lent to us by Kirsten's dad). John had mentioned that it would likely need some cleaning, etc to get it working, so I went out to get some gas, put in a new sparkplug, and tested everything I could test..... and it wouldn't start.

I've got it figured out though, I think. It will start if I prime the spark plug chamber manually with gas (using a syringe, and putting a few ounces directly into the chamger). It won't *keep* running though -- as soon as the primer is spent it sputters and dies. So to me, that means that the fuel is just not getting through to the sparkplug. Tonight, I need to take it apart and try to find where the fuel line is clogged.

Which reminds me... my next post will be birthday gift ideas. (I certainly don't expect gifts... but if you want to get me one, check out the entry)

  2. for the mower, I'd first check the line from the fuel tank to the engine and check the fuel pickup from the tank. Both can easily get grass clippings and other stuff in them and that'll block fuel flow.
