Yet another reason to not vote Conservative

<< We need another Trudeau | Main | The weekend >>

CBC News:Harper promises Armed Forces $1.6B boost

That is, $1.2B per YEAR for the first three years, and rising to $1.6B in the fourth year. That's $5 billion in total. Now, I agree that the Canadian Forces is underfunded, relative to other defense establishments around the world... but do we really need to pump THAT MUCH money into the armed forces? Why not take that amount and pump it into healthcare? The Romanow report wants $5 billion for 2004/2005 above current spending to boost our healthcare system. $1.2 billion wouldn't match it, but it would get things that much closer. (FWIW, the NDP has committed 25% of their government operating budget to healthcare)

While I agree that spending that much on the military is a bad idea, I don't agree with your conclusion, which I think you were suggesting to vote NDP.

NDP would send us into another huge dept to fund social programs, not a good long term plan.

The Liberals would blow all the money of their friends, a tad arrogant aren't they.

The Conservatives have no clue what they're going to do, they're just trying to do the opposite of the Libs so they can get elected.

My opinion is that we need to elect the Conservatives this time, let them go play for a while and hopefully the following election the Libs won't be so arrogant anymore and can go back to running this country.

at least with NDP we won't be spending that FIVE BILLION on military. My god. Don't get me started.

Raskal, I don't think Darren was suggesting anyone in particular to vote for, just information. Plus do you rememeber what the Conservatives did to us last time they were in power. Do you rememeber the 80s?
"The Conservatives have no clue what they're going to do, they're just trying to do the opposite of the Libs so they can get elected."
Is this really a reason to vote for a party. Other then the fact that I am not going to vote Liberal (I am from BC so this is a no brainer) I have no idea who to vote for. But I better get my butt in gear because we only have 5 weeks left. Gotta love Canadian politics.

I'm also a BC'er so like you said, we're not allowed to vote Liberal. Reading Darren's other post about Layton makes me question whether the NDP may be a choice. But again, being from BC, my dealings with the NDP have all been negative. So since we have a more-or-less 3 party system, a vote Conservative is all that is left. The lesser of 3 evils.

I used to wonder why there can't be a new party created where it is run by normal people who feel the need to do 4 years of community service then leave politics. Perhaps in that short time they won't be corrupted by politics and they'd just do the things that are right for the country, not for their friends that helped get them elected.

I live in a pipe dream.

Let me just remind you two that the provincial party is in no way related to the federal party (Liberal, NDP, Otherwise).
