It hurts to type this.

<< d'oh! | Main | No recording, please >>

Last night, shortly after heading to bed, I realized that we'd left the front windows open the entire day to air out the house, and hadn't closed them before heading to sleep...

So I crept downstairs, and started shutting them. The windows we have in the front room are original to the house; they're wood-framed panes that slide up and down. Well, most of the time, that is. The last window was stuck - it wouldn't shut. Until, that is, I put my entire weight on it.

There was only one problem -- as soon as the window started falling, my fingers curled around the back of the pane (to get a better grip I guess)... and all my fingers got stuck between the top of the sliding window pane and the window pane it slid overtop. Normally, this space is small enough that you can't get a piece of paper in between.

As you can imagine, I couldn't get out. I literally stood there screaming my head off, yanking and pulling and twisting - anything to get my fingers unstuck. I'm sure Kirsten (who had JUST fallen asleep as I was walking downstairs) thought I was being axe-murdered downstairs.

Finally, I managed to yank my fingers free, and soaked them in cold, cold water for about a half hour. They don't look too worse for wear, but the two middle fingers (the most useful of fingers!) are pretty damned tender.

(And, of course, I type for a living)
