Here's some pictures of our weekend activities

Here's the insulated attic. See that little angled passage? That goes to the other side of the house. That 2x6 is all we had to get across on.

And these are the roughed-in builtin cabinets. We can't do much more until after the electricians are here tomorrow, but these will eventually be drywalled around, and have smaller, shallower shelves installed on top. (Also, shelves will be put inside them. :) )

Here's a closeup of what I had to do to build the jamb - in order to get the proper fit, you have to chisel out the thick part of the jamb to accomodate both the top jamb (called the header) and the bottom (called the sill, or threshold). The threshold is the pickiest part - it has to be chiseled out at an angle.

And, of course, I had to break the old door out of the opening, so I could put the new door in...

This is what it looks like shortly before wedging the door into the opening. This is what I didn't do the last time - build it before putting it in the opening. I tried to do it the other way around (building it into the opening)... and that's why it didn't work. Always fit the jamb to the door, not the opening.

Here's a couple of extra shots, just because:

A nice sunset the other night (taken while I was locked out of the house, waiting for Kirsten to come home from taking the dog for a walk)

Holy crap! I can't believe you and Kirsten had to work in such a tiny space with only a 2X6 for floor space!

Like the last two photos quite a bit, too.
