Kirsten just got off the phone with them... apparently they called to say that the were cancelling her flight to Baltimore (she's going to a conference) and rescheduling it... She wasn't allowed to know why it was cancelled, and no compensation was offered to her for the short notice... and, of course, the woman she was dealing with was a complete bag - saying, "I can cancel the flight entirely, if you'd like."
And they wonder why people are fleeing them and going to Westjet.
Update: There's apparently a "step by step" process to file a complaint with Air Canada. The steps? Deal with it your damned self. For customer service complaints, they only have a fax number. You can't actually talk directly to a person about your customer service complaints.

you guys have nothing better to do then complain. all you people who fly with air canada expect to get spoon feed and for thier agents to kiss your butts b/c you choose air canada. they are very thankful that you r flying AC but if u have ever flowen any other airline you would know that air canada treats their pax much better then many airline across the world. dont let one bad sour agent turn you off from flying ac.
-- Posted by >> christina » Tuesday, December 9, 2003 04:04 PMHaving flown back and forth to Edmonton every 3 weeks for over 2 years, I have a pretty good idea of what to expect from air travel.
In those two years, all but 3 or 4 of those trips have been with WestJet. Whenever I've deviated from WestJet (be it because I wanted to try something else, or because WestJet didn't fly to the location I needed to go to), I was extremely disappointed.
My experiences with Air Canada have not been outstanding. The flight attendants have seemed not to really care whether I'm having a good flight or not, and don't go out of their way to make sure I do.
Going to WestJet after that experience is like moving from night to day. I've had outstanding service from WestJet, and only ever experienced one significant delay (and that was only because the airport we were supposed to stop over in was experiencing a blizzard).
Finally, Air Canada just all-around ticks me off because of their "we can't make money in this business" attitude. WestJet has consistently turned profits by sticking to a solid business plan, showing that profit is indeed possible in Canadian airspace.
-- Posted by >> Darren » Tuesday, December 9, 2003 04:14 PMYou guys are fools. Air freakin Canada sucks. First they delay my flight for one hour, so we sit on the plane. Then another 1/2 an hour trying to park at our destination cuz there was no ground crew. THEN i ran to my connection, but it got delayed too and that took 2 hours. Then they lost my luggage. 72+ hours later I am sitting here with NOTHING. Did I mention I have exams and all my notes were in the *%(#)@!% bags?! They were too big to fit in carryon.

-- Posted by >> shockr23 » Tuesday, January 6, 2004 11:31 AMintially , i would like to say it is,absolutely, no shame for canada and canadian if we do not have national airline specially if it is not up to the challenges and the reputation of canada. it is better to be out of buisiness and dissolved than to cheat and implicate those suffering . what happened to me and my son on our flights to manila from thunder bay- ontario is beyond imagination of international travellers. not less than rude gate staff, flight has been cancelled and rescheduled without any previous notice no compenasion except one way taxi voucher never been offered but given after fighting, routes changed and stop over calgary without previous notice,. no one is available to talk with rude management staff refusing to talk with us either from toronto or from winnipeg. booked me on philippines airline from hong kong where they refused me saying i have no booking with them, and my family were waiting me at philippines airline arrival gate, and there in hong kong they put me on cathay pacific then in manilla i have to search for my family and page them many times. and the surprise my luggage did not arrive with me and i have to buy clothes for my son and i without any compensation from the freekin air canada. luggage never been delivered but we had to report in their office twice and again we paid for all these sufferings caused by fucking air canada.
-- Posted by >> Rosalinda tolentino and son Yasser Abdelaal » Saturday, January 17, 2004 08:39 PMi never been, as whole, over weight luggage but one box was really heavy and they over charged me CAD $225 for it. and i have a thought that they punished us because my husbands anger at them for their irresposibilities and his frustration. the luggage were with them overnight in the airport and they never phoned us to let us that we are overweight in one box.
strongly, i do not recommend air canada at all either for domestic or overseas flights. guys be far and safe yourself troubles. air canada, go out of business, and your employess, the rude of them, welcome to the social assistance, soon you will be laid off and your resume is bad enough for job search.
thats a low last remark to make. would you like someone to wish you lose your job.GROW UP!
-- Posted by >> christina » Friday, January 30, 2004 01:39 PMTry to remember all the good the airline has done for you, some airlines will bot put you on another airline if their flight is cancelled.be thanksful for the times you asked a question and they answered it for you or the time air canada held the flight for you or how bout when you did not know where to go and they led you there. GROW UP. Be thankful that you have the money to fly and see your friends and family
Anyone as incompetent as Air Canada employees *deserves* to lose their job, and *deserves* to have other people WISH that they lost their job.
"Try to remember all the good the airline has done for you"
Air Canada has never done one ounce of good for me -- nor for, by the looks of it, most of the other posters here.
"some airlines will bot put you on another airline if their flight is cancelled."
Name one.
"be thanksful for the times you asked a question and they answered it for you"
Air Canada has consistently passed the buck and avoided answering my many, many inquiries to not only their reservations department, but their Customer "Service" Department and their Appeals Department.
"or the time air canada held the flight for you or how bout when you did not know where to go and they led you there."
Led us there? By Gods, it would kill the counter people to LOOK UP at someone when they are "serving" them, much less lead anyone anywhere. If there were ever poster children for the wonders of pharmaceutical attitude adjustments, these people are it!
"Be thankful that you have the money to fly and see your friends and family"
Yes, and be thankful that we live in a country where we have the freedom to take a sloppily-run company to task for providing sub-standard service on a consistent basis.
I look forward to the day where Air Canada goes belly-up, and WestJet takes their rightful place as an the company I would be proud to call Canadian's National Airline.

-- Posted by >> FlyBoy » Thursday, March 4, 2004 11:04 AMYeah, Air Canada takes too much from every citizen to justify the complete lack of service. One solution: F'it, let's fly Delta.

Just got in from the "Qantas Sucks" blog. It's funny, people over there call Qantas the "second worst" airline, after Air Canada! Having suffered through both, I can say without hesitation that AIR CANADA SUCKS WORST OF ALL!!
The two airlines have similar situations..they are preserved and bailed out by their respective federal governments, meaning that they can treat the public like complete shit and still retain their markets..the public has no choice. Remember the heady days in Canada of multiple airlines? I do...Wardair, Canadian, CP Air.....
Air Canada sucks in the most basic of ways. Service. The food sucks, the movies are boring crap, and woe betide you if you need their help because you are missing a connection due to their delays.
My own story is hilarious in hindsight. Got on the Toronto-Los Angeles flight. Settling into my tiny seat, the 350 pound woman wedged her way up the aisle and found her seat. Beside mine...her buttocks took up not only her seat, but half of mine. I was crushed against my arm-rest. I was not going to sit like that for 5 hours..but Air Canada expected me to. My contorted position was of no concern to the stew...she actually looked at me and grinned..they secretly love it when the pax suffer.
Now putting aside the fact that I was about to face 5 hours of being jammed into a seat that was now 15 across, I PAID for a SEAT...that means 100% of a seat!! The fat lady apparently only paid for ONE seat too, and ass her ass was half in MY seat, she was riding on MY dollar. AND the fattie was using more fuel. I pulled one of thier pig ugly stews aside and explained the situation. She wouldn't move me. Apparently the flight was full. Sitting just behind business class, I could see that their business class section had several empty seats..but no, "That would cost you $3200 more..". Unbeliveable!! What a cunt.
I rode to LA crushed in my half seat and spent the next 6 months getting a refund from Air Canada..not a WHOLE refund, just for the one way. It was like pulling teeth. They simply didn't want to give me the money. They offered me great freebies which I would never take..like 10,000 airmiles towards a flight on Air Ontario..that's right..Air Ontario.
-- Posted by >> Fritz » Thursday, April 1, 2004 10:43 PMI had a flt from sfo to yvr on alaskan and conect to westjet in vancouver to saskatoon with westjet. For whatever reason my bag did not arrive in customs with me so when i checked in with westjet i advised them , they told me to fill out a baggage tracer with alaskan.I went to do this but alaskian advised me they don't fly to saskatoon to do the tracer with air canada as they are a partner airline , i told them that i was flying westjet to bad no agreement with them(so there is an airline that wouldn't put me on another flt or even forward me bag). Then i went to air canada and explain the problem to them they did a courtesy trace.i told the west jet agent before boarding to ask her what would happen when the bag got to saskatoon and she told me i would have to pick it up.in saskatoon i tried to report a missing bag with westjet but after i told her that alaskain lost the bag she said they could do nothing for me because again they have no agreements with any other airlines this must keep there cost down.i went to the air canada counter and explain everything to them they told me they would give it to west jet when it came because they were the last carrier , and they would have to deliver it.I was called by air canada the next day my bag was in but west jet refused to deliver the bag they do not follow rules that goverern real airline i guess.air canada delivered the bag and from now on i will fly them to save the hasle of dealing with west jets idea that since they have no agreements with any airlines they can screw you if you are transfering from one.as for the last letter about air ontario they haven't been around for 3 yrs get your story straight and cp and wardair became canadian they didn't all fly against each other.
-- Posted by >> billyboy » Monday, April 12, 2004 11:39 AMseems that westjet's busniness plan was to look at aircanada's and steal it , when you look at their management ducking this story you have to wonder.what very happen to the fun westjet that always talked about how air canada was trying to run them out of business.the nice guy image is starting to wear and now we can see just how low this company will sink for a dollar.i flew wj in the winter and when we pushed back northwest was de icing on one side and air canada on the other our wings appeared to have frost but no de icing for us, never been that neverous on a take off before.safety first isn't a mission statement for them i guess profit first is.
-- Posted by >> » Monday, April 12, 2004 11:47 AMwell yes,
-- Posted by >> » Tuesday, June 1, 2004 08:43 PMair canada is absolutely hilarious. they would not change my flight to include a stopover (at a transit that was already scheduled), for any amount of money i could offer. i found myself on the phone saying, 'i don't CARE how MUCH it is, just please make it WORK'... umm, right. of course they refused, for no intelligible reason. i took the first chunk of my flight then flew westjet. their inflexibility has lost them more money than anything else, in my opinion.
