some interesting information...

<< So much for that war... | Main | hmm... >>

This transcribed interview [PDF] with Scott Ritter has a wealth of interesting information in it.

Such as

  • The Vx Nerve Agent has a 1-8 day shelf life. 1-8 days.

  • The Weapons Inspectors left in 1998 because of direct orders to leave, due to a US & British bombing campaign. A campaign Ritter outright calls illegal, and without Security Council clearance.

  • The UN Inspectors didn't head to the presidential palaces expecting to find weapons; rather, they went there to find documentation. They were turned away because they couldn't convince the guards that the documentation wouldn't be turned over to the US.

  • "98% of the inspections run by the weapons inspection team from 1996 to 1998 got the full cooperation of the Iraqi government.

  • "Maybe the United States, Great Britain, Russia, France, and China shouldn't have the ability to dictate to the world how they live, how they interact" (regarding vetos in the Security Council)

  • Neither the US nor Britain had new Iraqi intelligence past 1995-6

Overall, a very interesting article.
