Photos from the hikes...

<< surviving the ridge... | Main | And for Alan... >>

This image is one of my favourites from the hike we took on Saturday. This shows Kirsten halfway up the crux of the hike: a demonic scree slope heading up to Tent Ridge. It's an hour of boot scrambing, slipping, sliding over little wee pebbles, and it lives up to the guide's 'demonic' rating. It doesn't look like it'd be all that difficult. It looks like a relatively gentle slope that you can scramble up with ease. But it's deceptively steep, and the rock falls out from under you easily.

But it was worth it. This was the view from the top (taken with the camera's self-timer... we were totally alone on the ridge):

This is what it looked like from the bottom:

But even on the demonic scree, life managed to get a foothold. About halfway up, we came across some wildflowers:

Kirsten will be sure to give you the full report tomorrow.

The hike on Sunday was much, much easier. On the Saturday hike, I sustained the Mother of All Blisters, which had in fact popped, then ripped on the back of my heel.

So, we decided to go to Ptarmigan Cirque, a hike rated 'easy and short' in our guidebook. As you can see below, the hike was really easy, and as a result, very popular. We managed to do the entire circuit in 2 hours, including a stop for lunch and my hobbling.

All in all, a good weekend to be had. You can find all the photos here.

The nice thing about Ptarmigan Cirque, however, was that the view was quick to get to -- and it was a great view as well.
