Got myself some new glasses on the weekend, and they just showed up today... they're made by Prodesign Denmark, and they're niftykeen.
There's a few more new things in my life as well since the last time I talked here.
The first, and most important of which, is that the design firm I had signed on with just went under. Though I can't really get into details, the firm hasn't been doing well for the last year or so, and finally gave up the ghost last week. Hopefully, the project I've spent the last month working on will see the light of day (we're trying), and I'll have a nice portfolio piece out of it.
Thankfully, the gods smiled on me, and another job opportunity showed up - a help development position with GE. Though it's not the dream job I've always wanted, it's a good position with friendly people. I'm going to keep up web development as a side job, doing it in the evenings and on the weekends. Who needs sleep, right?
In that vein, the gods have again smiled upon me. A few days ago, I was approached by a South Korean law firm to redesign their current website. As if the work wasn't good enough, it seems to have come along with an extremely knowledgable client.
The client had already made several decisions regarding content, CMS, and even methods of layout before contacting me - one of his requests was to use CSS-P instead of table-based layout.
K's been teasing me for days about how 'in love' with this client I am. Sadly, they didn't choose to include a new Corporate Identity in this redesign, so I wasn't able to bring Amanda along for the ride.
I also had to turn down a three week contract with Corby Distilleries (distributors of such fine products as Bailey's Irish Cream, Drambuie, etc), because it was full-time for June - a couple of weeks after my contract with GE starts.
The nice thing about GE (at least, I hope!) is the amount of stability it will bring. I'm not getting the initial warning bells that Matrikon set off, and the people I'll be working with all seem pretty friendly and sane.

Don't listen to what anders says, he knows nothing I tell you nothing! Don't let anyone tell you are crazy.

you are crazy.
Wow, lots going on. Good luck in the new job. Sounds like you'll enjoy it (or at the very least be too busy not to!).

i am a bit godly in my sandals.
since you're about to take on my old job (the only job i've left entirely of my own accord, on very good terms - no layoff, no company closing, no retardes... hi paul!) I will re-vouch that it's a good place to work.
plus, you're working for the self-declared king of outer space. it's nice to work with/for people who actually have the most knowledge of what the hell is going on, and he's that guy.
if he's twitchy that means he hasn't had his coffee yet. if you hear him sobbing quietly in his office, it's because he misses the soothing sounds of my constant nattering.

-- Posted by >> Anders » Thursday, May 15, 2003 01:55 AMSay Hi to Andrew Langvand for me, hes a super dude to work with. I just realized after reading godly anders that you have taken over two of his seats. heh. well done.
-- Posted by >> miss amanda » Thursday, May 15, 2003 08:09 AMYeah. What gives, Darren? Do you like the way my ass warms the chair for you?
Or perhaps you won a contest and much like the MuchMusic "Becoming" show, your prize is to go around to all of the places I've had office antics and try to recreate them as closely as possible.
And what exactly is Kirsten going to think when you have to do the scene in the cloak room during the office party with the Fitzsimmon's twins? Those girls were deported for that, so I don't even know where you're going to find conjoined twin swimsuit models for your crazy video.
-- Posted by >> Anders » Thursday, May 15, 2003 10:05 AMI thought for sure Kirsten was going to read that and defend your honor by saying you could sleep with some conjoined twins if you wanted to, Darren. Well it was worth a try.
