I have the courage of a 5 year old girl.

<< so, uh... | Main | and another note... >>

So, a little more elaboration on the whole ear piercing thing...

Kirsten's been bugging me for well over a year to get my ears pierced. Quite honestly, it's been almost a daily, if not weekly thing hearing about how good I'd look with pierced ears, how it'd be sexy, etc. I'd never seen it myself, especially considering I have an strong, strong phobia of any type of needle (to the point of having to take sedatives for any major kind of dentist trip).

For some reason yesterday, however, I finally broke down and let her take me to the mall to get them done.

I was still extremely nervous about the idea of someone stabbing my ear (not only once, but twice) with sharp pointy metal, but I thought to myself, "Kirsten loves me, and wants me to pierce my ears, so I'll do this because I love her too, and it'll make her happy."

We entered the mall and walked over to the shop to get my ears pierced. That was my 'no turning back' point, since there was a 5 year old girl sitting in the chair waiting to get her ears pierced. Much statement of "If a 5 year old girl can do it, so can you." followed. :)

Ten minues and two *kachink*s later, I had pierced ears.

Honestly, there's surprisingly little pain involved. It stung for a minute or two, then pretty much felt weird but not painful for the rest of the day. I slept fine on them last night, without any pain.

As soon as I can replace the studs (3 or 4 weeks), I'm going to be getting some sterling silver celtic-style hoops to put in there (if I'm going to have pierced ears, I might as well have something *interesting* in there).

I also broke the webcam out of its box this morning to take some pictures, since I don't have a digital camera. :( (If anyone wants to start a "Get Darren a Digital Camera" foundation, please be my guest.)

The left ear...

The right ear...

Also, here's our new cat, Heidegger (since he was just sitting on the office chair beside me).

Congratulations on your ear piercing! I had mine re-done last summer and was all nervous and, like you, discovered there was no reason to be.

PS: Heidegger's so pretty.

Looks fake, I could make it look like I had a pierced nose if I had 31337 photoshop skillz as well!

(ok, not terrible looking, I'll give you that, you now look only marginally less cute than the cat :)

On the topic of spouses convincing you to change your body for them, I highly recommend watching the robin williams live on broadway (you know where to get it).... just remember these words "mamma likes a big ol' basket on her bunny!"

No one is afraid of pirates anymore. A giant dragon tattoo would have been more menacing.

And just as a precautionary measure, if Kirsten suggests painting your toenails and gives you a tennis racquet to carry around the house, you might want to get your hands on a book that deals with repressed Barbie issues.
