Did you happen to catch the Saddam interview on 60 minutes last night? Very interesting, and he definately showed himself as a nice, non war mongering person (though I'm sure that was intended). Some of his views were a little warped, but he had some interesting points about how if the US had "won" the gulf war they wouldn't be still there bombing.

He also invited Bush to a sit down debate, no prepared speaches, no BS, etc. Again, I'm sure it was intended to show the west how much of a wonderful guy he was, but the White house apparently didn't even take it seriously. This is of course, more than they have done (that I've heard about anyway) as far as negotiation.

His points about how the "aggressor" in a conflict does not noramally travel halfway around the world was good as well...

No.. didn't catch it... which is a bummer, because I wanted to.

The funny thing is, Saddam is probably being much more rational about all this than Bush Jr.

Well, that's the thing... it really depends on how you view it. If you view it as him being a tyrant and evil leader of a poor nation, it could be seen as a political stunt to turn americans to sympathize with him and his people.

Or it could be what it seems like, an honest interview from someone who, while a bit warped, is trying to defend his country against a tyrant who is determined to succeed where daddy failed.

It really depends on the amount of propaganda you've been fed (on both sides) and how much of it all you belive.

There was another interesting thing I saw last night on N.Korea, and how their whole culture has been influenced by the propaganda of the evil americans, how they used chemical weapons against the proud fighters during the Korean war, how american planes were shot down by little old ladies, etc. Very interesting how their views were warped by the gov't propaganda.

I'm so glad that sort of thing doesn't happen here in the west :)
