There's been an interesting thread on one of the mailing lists I'm on. Basically, there's a debate about how useful the RESET button is on an online form, and if it should even be used at all.

What's your thoughts on the reset button? Is it useful, or is it a nuisance?

I've never used one, and think that personally they are pretty lame, useless, and take up space. The only reason I can see them being useful is on a form with a lot of text elements, but then you have the danger of accidently hitting it and destroying all that you just typed in. Much easier to just do a reload, shift-reload, or go back and forward.

have never used one. in fact until now, have never given them a thought.

I don't use them. I can never remember if it's better to have them before or after the submit button. Having only rarely wanted to delete everything I've typed in a form, and when refreshing the page works so well, I don't see the point.

Moore's Law: The longer the form, the more likely you are to accidentally hit reset and curse madly.

If a user is updating existing information/data then they should have a way to reset/revert/undo to what the data was before they started editing. Similarrly they should have the option to redo.Thing is it is a real PITA to do so it is probably best to do if time permits, in most cases there are more important features to implement.
