mea culpa

<< In cowgary... | Main | I've wasted my life >>

I think I owe a small apology to Brian and Wim, since I've started using databases more and more in my daily work.

I didn't see back then how useful they were for dynamic content (such as drivers lists, news databases, publication lists, etc).

So, my apologies for being such a twit about it. ;)

As someone who is trying to make a living integrating the web and databases yea, they rock :) Just the thought of trying to do something with flat files to get data just makes me shiver now :)

Ok guys, now we just have to sell him on embedded perl! :)

>> fozbaca » Monday, October 28, 2002 08:31 PM

apology accepted :)

selling him on embedded perl shouldn't be too hard. he is already using the bastardarized 1/4 brethern called PHP and ASP.

;->

We probably did a bad job of selling it to... of course implementing and using it without 'selling' it probably did not help.

Now that you're sold on dynamic content, check out how XML, Embperl2, and CSS can componentize and objectize your content, layout, and appliation logic. Please let SSI die... please... ;-)

SSI is still a great way to go.. (though php's include_once function is pretty great too)
ASP, as much as I generally dislike it, at least plays well with SSI...

Though I have to say that I really enjoyed hacking around in Gallery's source and customizing it to my own tastes a couple weeks ago.

Hmm... Gallery... now that we have a digital camera, I've been thinking of setting up a gallery... haven't decided whether to roll my own (via ImageMagick!!) or to grab an existing one.

Gallery is pretty nice, and not too bad to hack around in...
