"Make no mistake . . . it will be vetoed."

<< Super Happy Collaborative Fiction #2 | Main | ht://dig >>

The US isn't a dictatorship. Nope, no way.

Ari Fleischer, Bush's mouthpiece on all things political, has made the following claim about the Senate's rumoured decision to turn down additional presidential hiring/firing powers in the Homeland Security legislation:

"Make no mistake: if what the Senate (passes) were to come to the president's desk it will be vetoed."

Good to see the US leading by example in the realm of democracy - basically, the presidency can railroad things through, regardless of what the elected representatives say.

Its called the System of Checks and Balances.

And the Congress can bypass a presidential veto with a 2/3 vote.

I understand you don't like my government, but come on, please. Every president has had the power of veto ever since the country was founded. And ever since the country was founded, Congress has been able to override that veto with a 2/3 vote. It was set up this way for a reason, to make sure that all branches of government are balanced.
