Legalize pot, Senate committee says

This from the Special Committee on Illegal Drugs, who along with the recommendation suggested that people convicted with marijuana possession should have their records wiped clean.

I saw this and, due to past issues involving a relationship gone INCREDIBLY sour in large part due to marijuana, I was pretty pissed off. But I composed myself and wrote my MP and basically said, very nicely, that I am firmly against this and that should a bill regarding marijuana's legal status come before the House, that it wouldn't pass.

(Yeah, yeah, I'm sure that I'll be blasted for my views on pot, but after what I've seen and been through, that's just how I see things.)

My thoughts on this - you can easily substitute the word "marijuana" with "alchohol" or "cigarettes", yet those are still legal... In my mind, if you keep pot illegal, throw cigarettes & alchohol in there too.

From what I have seen the problems related to marijuana use related to two parts. First the quality and cleanliness of the pot was always in question leading to problems related to it being laced with say LSD. Secont the require ment to participate in a criminal culture which for many regular smokers ends leading to other criminal behavior. Have never seen any evidence of tobaco smoking leading to criminal activity, or being contaminated by anything other and anmonia and arsnic, so wouldn't expect things to be different for pot. Besides if tobaco goes illegal RJR and Phillip Morris need something to sell to highschool kids.

Hell, go ahead, throw alcohol and tobacco in there, too. There's a big push to get people to quit smoking. It's just plain *bad* for you. Drinking to the excess? Also bad.

I don't understand the movement to legalize something ELSE that's bad for you, you know? I don't drink, smoke or do drugs. I would, personally, be happier in a world where none of the three existed, much less were readily available anywhere.

Of course, that will never be the case, but I feel that legalizing pot is just a step backwards in terms of having healthy citizens. JMHO, of course, but surely inhaling any kind of smoke into your lungs cannot be healthy for you.

Oops, noticed a typo in my first comment. I meant "that I hope it wouldn't pass".

Please legalize lawn darts. That's all the rush I need. Thank-you.

"... to the excess? Also bad"

Anything to the access is bad... while I'm totally against making more drugs legal or acceptable, the odd beer/smoke/etc won't kill a person or totally damage a family's life... it's excess that does damage... whether it's drugs, alcohol, tv, tylenol, stress, yada yada.

Do a search for 'netherlands marijuana legal' on Google... although they've legalized many things that the rest of the world hasn't, they claim usage is not any higher and their is less associated crime. Also interesting to note that the 'coffee shops' and 'prostitution' houses are being taxed.

Do most people view legalizing morijuana as a 'slippery slope'?
