It's just about time again for yet another Edmonton Fringe Festival. The list of players is already out, and I'm ecstatic to see that our favourite Shakespearian(ish) troup, Sound&Fury is back with a NEW production: "Canned Hamlet."
A lot of the old stand-bys are there, such as Merrie Mary, Nikolai, Bikeboy and DIE NASTY (an ongoing parody of soap operas. Supposed to be extremely funny, but I've never seen it).
There are some new kids on the block too, such as Pamila's Porn Story Hour, which beg to be checked out.
And, I just discovered that the Group Formerly Known as Mind the Walrus Productions has regrouped to become Hidden Insanity Theatre.
Mind the Walrus was our first direct exposure to the Fringe Festival. When K and I first moved up to Edmonton in August of 1999, we had to live in the University of Alberta dorms. (why is another story for another time. Basic reason: landlord wouldn't give us our apartment until Sept 1; we moved up for Aug 15, after he told us we could move in immediately). Mind the Walrus was also billeted at the University, in the same section of the dorm as we were in. As a result, K got to know several of the players quite well while I was working, and we went to catch their show.
After that summer, they disbanded... I'm happy to see that some of them regrouped to form a new troup, and we'll have to see if we can catch one of their shows this year.
