I guess it's about time I did this:
1. What are your hobbies?
Climbing, hiking, publishing, writing (This has actually been taking up a lot of time lately. I've finished my first article (of the three listed above), and am working on the other two right now. I'll be linking to the first article soon)...
2. Do you collect anything?
Furniture. K has a bit of a furniture addiction that we occassionally have to satisfy. In our little one bedroom apartment, we already have two couches, 2 chairs, 2 coffe tables (one to soon be replaced by the other, as soon as we can stain it), 2 desks (well, one desk and one "laptop table", which K isn't enamoured with), 4 bookshelves, 3 lamps, two wardrobes (one for the TV/stereo/VCR), three bedside tables and a recently acquired pine shelving unit that's acting as a closet organizer.
Every single piece of it has a great story behind it, however, so it's all very special to us. ;)
3. Is there a hobby you're interested in, but just don't have the time/money to do?
There's a couple, both of which I want to make the time and money to do. The first, as you may have noticed in this post is photography. I've wanted to get into photography longer than I've been a designer. I first wanted to take a photography course in high school, but my school didn't offer any. Then, when I was in college, the bug hit me again - and again, the school I was at didn't offer it. When I was in university, I still wanted to get into photography, but I just didn't have the time and disposable cash.
When I was living in Abbotsford last year, K's Dad had a digital camera. I started tooling around the place with it from time to time, and took a bunch of pictures. I truly enjoyed myself.
Now, I want to pick up a digital camera of my very own (the Sony). K thinks I should get a camera too, as it fits in with what I do for a living... of course, K has been joking recently that if I did get the Sony, I'd drop it / fall on it / break my neck with it within minutes.
Of course, the other hobby I want to do more, and can't ever seem to find the time to, is climbing. There's a climbing gym in Edmonton that I'm going to join one of these days, but other than that... there's nothing out here short of a three hour drive to Jasper.
4. Have you ever turned a hobby into a moneymaking opportunity?
Yes, I have -- this web design thing. 7 years ago, this was a hobby. 5 years ago, I started making money off of it on the side. 3 1/2 years ago, I started making money exclusively from it.
5. Besides web-related stuff (burbs, rings, etc.), what clubs do you belong to?
None. I hate clubs. If you're going to do something, just do it. If other people want to do it with you, great.
