I never thought I'd say this, but with the recent resignation of Bouchard from the Parti Québecois, leaving no clear successor, I proudly exclaim vive le Québec libre!.

Astronomers recently found a planet with 17 times the mass of Jupiter in a solar system 123 light years away from ours. Astronomers call the mystery object "unique and frightening" (astronomers had earlier theorized that a planet could not be more than 13 times the mass of Jupiter).[Update: According to this CNN article, the mystery object could be 17-40 times the size of Jupiter.]

BC Gets new area code. Great. Just what we need. Now, we'll have to stop for a second to think if the phone number we're calling is 604, or 778. It also means that if you get a *new* phone number in your house after this date, you will actually have two different area codes in the same house!

RCMP come up with a plan to deal with drunk drivers, suggesting they be forced to display a "D" in their rear windshield. I predict it causes more accidents, as people strain to figure out what the hell the letter "D" means and miss the fact the guy ahead of them is, well, stopped at a red light.

Is it a game, or is it reality? - EA plans to erase the lines between the two with its latest offering, Majestic - a real-time online (and OFFline) game of strategy, including recorded conversations with game characters, phoned threats and the like, invading players' privacy as part of the gameplay.

Strengthening our military is one of my top priorities -- George Dubyah, on plans for dumping a lot of money into the US Military; $21 billion, to be exact. It makes me wonder... wouldn't $21 billion be better spent on homeless in the US? Jobless? Education? Health Spending? The last thing the US needs to do is dump more money into things like a missile defense system or a military pay raise.
